2.1 million scholarships Toyota helps research on 3D printing in universities

The University of Waterloo, Canada received a $ 2.1 million donation from Toyota Motor Corporation of Canada (TMMC), the company's largest donation to a Canadian higher education institution. The investment will support a partnership between Toyota Motor and the university to advance engineering research and education, including 3D printing.

As part of the partnership, Toyota Motor and the University of Waterloo will kick off an undergraduate engineering challenge, the Toyota Engineering Innovation Challenge. Part of the focus of cooperation between the two parties is in the area of additive manufacturing, or 3D printing. The University of Waterloo has a teaching building, Engineering Building 7, for 3D printing research for students and faculty. Due to this huge investment, the wing of this building will be renamed Toyota Additive Manufacturing Wing. As expected, this funding will also be used to support research related to the automotive industry as additive manufacturing becomes increasingly important in the automotive sector.

"The University of Waterloo is very honored and has received valuable scholarships," said Feridun Hamdullahpur, President and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Waterloo. It is these investments that have enabled our institution to conduct in-depth research in the automotive sector to lead the Canadian higher education industry. "

"Our partnership with Toyota Motor Corporation of Canada enables our students and researchers to solve the tough engineering challenges facing the automotive industry and propose truly novel and sustainable Solutions to enhance the competitiveness of the Canadian automotive industry. Today's $ 2.1 million in bursaries will not only help our scientific research, but will also bring much-needed help to Toyota. "

As part of the collaboration, the University of Waterloo also renamed its engineering department corridor to Toyota Space. In the next five years, Toyota Motor Corporation will also be the title sponsor of the university's annual automotive technology seminar.
