New high-speed 3D printing system comes out
Eight times faster than traditional 3D printing, low cost printing of plastic parts
Science and Technology Daily, Beijing, March 18 (Reporter Zhang Mengran) According to recent news from 3D printing (3D printing) website, engineers from the Fraunhofer Institute for Molding and Forming Technology (IWU) in Germany have developed a new 3D printing system. Its speed is high – printing speed is 8 times faster than traditional 3D printing technology, and it can print tough plastic parts at low cost.
Germany has strong capabilities in the fields of industry and automobile manufacturing, and attaches great importance to the development of 3D printing technology in industrial applications. According to the Fraunhofer Institute for Molding and Molding Technology, the latest system they developed, when printing, a 1 mm diameter device nozzle can squeeze 7 kg of plastic per hour, while a traditional FDM or FLM fused deposition molded 3D printer Usually only 50 grams of plastic can be extruded per hour.
The new system is capable of processing plastic pellets into strong, tough plastic parts that can perform very complex shapes. In the test, engineers also processed many different types of plastic materials, including thermoplastic elastomers and high-performance plastics containing carbon fiber.
The institute issued a statement saying that the new system was named "Spiral Extrusion Additive Manufacturing" (SEAM), and it has been able to print 30 cm high plastic parts in 18 minutes and can be mass-produced. The plastic pellets are processed at high speed into a few meters of heavy, load-bearing, reinforced fiber parts.
The institute's engineer, Martin Cosch, said the new system combines machine tool technology with traditional 3D printing technology, using specially designed devices to melt plastic materials and eject them at extremely high speeds. It needs to be installed on a construction platform. The platform realizes six-axis rotation through the machine motion control system, and can be rotated rapidly according to the shape of the preset components during printing. Therefore, its printing speed is 8 times faster than traditional 3D printing technology, which greatly shortens the production time of plastic parts.
The system will be publicly presented for the first time at the 2019 Hannover Messe in April 1st to 5th.
