Siemens and EDAG develop automotive next-generation space architecture

German independent car design company EDAG is working with Siemens to further promote the industrial application of 3D printing (additive manufacturing) and improve the efficiency of engineering manufacturing. In addition, the two companies will continue to promote innovation in automotive manufacturing around the "NextGen Spaceframe 2.0".

Consumer demand has become more and more popular in the automotive industry, and automakers are also facing the challenge of producing increasingly diverse models, even meeting the needs of custom models, and “Next Generation Space Architecture 2.0” is precisely able to meet this requirement. 3D printing technology and structural components of the bionic node provide technical support for "Next Generation Space Architecture 2.0", and also combine high-strength, energy-absorbing aluminum profiles.

Thanks to the digital engineering process chain, manufacturing parts from 3D printing in automotive or industrial applications will significantly shorten the production cycle. After calculation and testing, the "Next Generation Space Architecture 2.0" collision area can absorb the expected collision energy, and the 3D printing node has no structural failure. The flexible next-generation space architecture 2.0 of lightweight aluminum construction will be able to support more automotive derivatives. It is reported that partners participating in the "Next Generation Space Architecture 2.0" project include Constellium, Northern Laser Center, BLM Group, and 3M.
